5th Annual SC MSM HIV Prevention Institute Conference
Conference Guest Speaker Darryl Stephens Brings Awareness of HIV
AID Upstate and the South Carolina MSM Workgroup’s 5th Annual MSM HIV Prevention Institute Conference will take place on Friday, June 21, 2013. The conference will be held at Brookland Banquet and Conference Center located at 1066 Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia. This year’s conference theme is “The Line Starts Here.” The conference will feature celebrity guest speaker Darryl Stephens and will begin at 8:30am and end at 4:30pm. The registration fee for the conference is $50 per guest which includes a Continental Breakfast, Buffet Lunch, Conference Materials, and Workshops. The deadline for registration is May 31, 2013.
This year’s conference theme, “The Line Starts Here,” hopes to encourage African American’s, in the MSM demographic, to become proactive in knowing their HIV statuses. Because African American MSM continues to be a low priority population #2 in South Carolina, AID Upstate and the SC MSM Workgroup recognized the need for increasing the number of those tested for HIV. The conference will also highlight the available resources for HIV prevention in South Carolina.
The conference celebrity guest speaker is actor, author, and tunesmith Darryl Stephens. After years of theater in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Stephens portrayed Noah on the Logo Network’s groundbreaking series Noah’s Arc and starred in feature films Boy Culture, Another Gay Movie, and Noah’s Arc: Jumping the Broom. Stephens is currently the executive producer, co-writer, and star of Logo Network’s drama series DTLA. Since appearing in the 2007 issue of OUT 100, Stephens has been very vocal about HIV/AIDS awareness.
